Sports Illustrated surprised the audience at their runway show for Miami Swim Week, where the magazine debuted a plus size swim line.
The magazine has definitely been working on upping its diversity and inclusion game, and we are loving their latest move.
SI Swimsuit editor MJ Day said,
“People in the crowd lost their minds when the curvy girls came out. I think they were shocked because you don’t typically see that at fashion week…especially at swim fashion week. Some people were moved to tears because they saw themselves represented on the runway, which they never thought they would.”
Representation matters??? Who knew???
But seriously, how many times can we report instances of people being literally moved to tears after seeing themselves represented on stage or screen.
The suits feature various styles and patterns, with a lot of fun metallic suits hitting the runway. The models who sported the swimwear are all competing for a spot in next year’s swim issue.
The swimwear line will be available sometime in early 2018, with prices ranging from $40-160.
