Hold on to your crowns everyone!

There’s a good chance there’s going to be a Princess Diaries 3. But before you get too excited, just know that nothing is confirmed. But some pretty strong rumors are swirling….

Here’s what we know so far about the potential third installment:

There is a script in place.
Author Meg Cabot stated that the only thing she can say for sure is that a script for it exists. If they were to follow through and make the movie, it would be as a tribute to Garry Marshall, the director of the first two movies who has since passed. When asked about more detail about the script, Cabot said,

“I am not allowed to say. I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed. But it’s really more following the movie than the books.”

Director Garry Marshall was hoping for a third installment before he passed.
In a 2016 interview with People magazine, Marshall stated that

“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”

So he was definitely hoping to do it. And if they are truly looking to make it as a tribute to him, looks like it might be set in Manhattan. Quite different from Genovia!

Your favorite faces are willing to appear.
In terms of what actors would return to the film, looks like pretty much everyone is game! Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, Heather Matarazzo, and Queen Julie Andrews have all stated that they are interested. Andrews said,

“Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to…I would very willingly and happily do it.”

Mandy Moore mentioned that she’d also be willing to make a cameo. She told Elle magazine,

“If I’m going to be involved, I would be down for a cameo — maybe she could make amends with Mia and apologize for being a bully when she was younger.”

Keeping our fingers crossed!
