Yes, you read that correctly: Amy Schumer is going to be the living embodiment of Barbie!
The news was officially released by The Hollywood Reporter, who says that it’s expected that Amy and her sis Kim Caramele will also take a shot at rewriting the script.
This is so cool! Amy has built her career on not being the typical Hollywood gal, so hopefully her take on Barbie will show another side to the doll, which has become known for its thin frame and unrealistic body proportions.
According to THR, the film “will try to address those issues in a story that begins in a perfect land of Barbies, where one woman slowly awakens to the fact that she doesn’t fit in. She is expelled from the idealistic land and journeys to the real world, where she discovers that being unique is an asset.”
Barbie (made by Mattel) has been making an effort lately to try and represent a wider range of body types and most recently came out with their plus-size, short, and tall barbies. They even came out with their new Ashley Graham doll, which lacks a thigh gap (!).
Barbie has been attempting to make a live-action movie for a while and many writers have taken a turn at the script by now. Hopefully Amy can bring a new energy to the film and revamp it.
Get it, girl!
