I know everyone hates Anne Hathaway for some unknown reason and believe me when I say I’m not trying to hop on that bandwagon.
But her latest Instagram post really rubbed me the wrong way.
In an attempt to preemptively shut down body shamers, she posted a workout video along with the message,
“I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well. To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it’s not me, it’s you. Peace xx.”
I have no problem with anyone trying to take down body shamers but the fact that she needs to “explain” her weight gain because of a movie role implies that her weight is only ok in this situation. If it weren’t for a movie role, then woah she would be in trouble!
I don’t think she meant it that way, but there’s something about her need to explain away her weight gain that’s disturbing. When Anne Hathaway shuts down body shamers by saying her weight is solely for a movie, she implies that every other woman should have an excuse for their weight as well.
Nobody should have to explain their body to anyone. You do not need to provide an explanation for your body. So take your excuses and shove it.
