Britney Spears fans are *not* happy with Jamie Lynn Spears’ statement on the artist’s conservatorship. In fact, they’re livid.
After remaining silent on Britney’s horrific conservatorship, sister Jamie Lynn took to Instagram to defend her silence, defend herself, and (somewhat) support Britney.
“The only reason I haven’t [spoken] before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do.”
She added,
“If ending the conservatorship and flying to Mars or whatever hell else she wants to do to be happy, I support that 100 percent because I support my sister. I love my sister, always have, always will, as long as she’s happy. So, let’s keep praying, that’s all.”
Many fans were less than impressed with Jamie Lynn’s video and took to Twitter to call her out. Comments ranged from vicious to truly hateful with many people calling her a leach, ungrateful, and more. Some of the comments include:
Britney herself has not responded directly to Jamie Lynn’s video, however, Britney made it clear how she felt about her family during her statement to the court on June 23, 2021. She told the judge,
“I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you. I also would like to be able to share my story with the world, and what they did to me, instead of it being a hush-hush secret to benefit all of them. I want to be able to be heard on what they did to me by making me keep this in for so long, it is not good for my heart.”
Since Britney’s statement to the judge was made public, several celebrities have spoken out to support the singer including Mariah Carey, Halsey, Christina Aguilera, and many more.
Christina, who has known Britney since their Mickey Mouse Club days, took to Twitter and wrote,
“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
She continued,
“She deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”

While making her statement to the judge, Britney petitioned the court to drop the conservatorship and to do so without having to go through an evaluation. She explained,
“I don’t think I owe anyone to be evaluated. I’ve done more than enough. I don’t feel like I should even be in a room with anyone to offend me by trying to question my capacity of intelligence, whether I need to be in this stupid conservatorship or not. I’ve done more than enough.”
She added,
“I just want my life back. And it’s been 13 years. And it’s enough.”
Britney Spears has been in the conservatorship for 13 years. She first entered into it in 2008 while she was seemingly struggling with her mental health. The conservatorship gives her father Jamie Spears control over her $60M fortune. Her father also controls who she sees, where she goes, her business, her body, her healthcare, and everything in between.
The conservatorship was originally meant to be temporary but has already been extended four times by the courts.
