Is it possible to love Chrissy Teigen even more? Because we do! The model, who is usually all smiles, recently opened up to the nitty-gritty of her postpartum depression.
“After I had Luna, our home was under construction, so we lived in a rental home, then a hotel, and I blamed whatever stress or detachment or sadness I was feeling at that time on the fact that there were so many odd circumstances.”
Sadly, it didn’t change once they moved back home and Teigen just couldn’t figure out why she was so unhappy.
“I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet, for much of the last year, I felt unhappy. What basically everyone around me—but me—knew up until December was this: I have postpartum depression.”
Although Teigen now has a name for what she was dealing with, she still noted how hard it was going to work in a great environment and feeling off, achy and short with everyone.
Thankfully at a checkup with husband John Legend, Teigen spoke to her doctor and finally realized what had been wrong with her and how to treat it.
“I remember being so exhausted but happy to know that we could finally get on the path of getting better.”
After figuring out she had postpartum depression, Teigen started talking to friends and family about her experience, which we can thank her for because it brought her to write a piece about it.
“I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone.”
We commend Teigen for speaking up and talking about her struggle with postpartum. We are rooting for you and every other woman out there dealing with this!
