It’s no secret that Planned Parenthood needs support now more than ever, given the country’s current state of affairs.
And now there’s a cool new project to benefit Planned Parenthood that we are really digging.
Comic Book artists are teaming up to create comics to benefit the organization.
“Mine! features stories about trailblazing women like Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman, civil rights leaders like Gloria Richardson, a person’s first time going to a Planned Parenthood, debunking myths about sex, STI screenings, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, as well as fantastical stories with superheroes, Greek mythology, and a future both with and without Planned Parenthood. There is something for everyone in Mine!”
The list of artists contributing to the work is astounding. I mean, just take a look at the Kickstarter page. And apparently some big name artists from Marvel and DC Comics are on board.
Lara Antal, a contributor to the project, spoke with Bustle to explain the significance of this project. Antal said,
“Comics are inherently accessible. They are unpretentious. You do not need a formal education to understand them, and you can read them in different ways: Visually, textually, and sequentially…The magic happens when a reader synthesizes all three into a complex, singular reading experience. I love making work that can be engaged with in multiple ways. The accessibility and range of comics make it an incredible vehicle to express ideas, teach, or call to action.”
Antal raises an interesting point. The accessibility may draw in and educate readers in a way other media can’t or doesn’t.
You can still donate to the Kickstarter campaign for this project. With a donation as small as $10, you’ll get a copy of the comic book when it is released.
We absolutely love donating to deserving causes like Planned Parenthood, and it doesn’t hurt when your donation comes with an extra perk.
