NBC’s iconic comedy Friends could have been a lot different, apparently.
Courteney Cox originally read for Jennifer Aniston’s role, Rachel. Cox has revealed this information in the past but elaborated on her choice to play Monica in the podcast Off Camera With Sam Jones.
Cox explained that she felt more of a connection with Monica’s character, and shares similar personality traits. Although not as extreme, Cox shares a similar love of order and neatness as her iconic Friends character. Cox also explained that she has a strongly competitive side.
Courteney also gushed about how the blend of cast and crew just worked. Cox said,
“I know during the pilot I could tell it just worked. People responded to it. It felt right. I mean everybody was just, we got along, it just was a great group of people that were put together that were there for the right reason.”
We’re glad things worked out the way they did!
