It turns out that if you go on hiatus for over a year, fans are pretty jazzed about your return! On January 6, Ed Sheeran debuted two singles off his new upcoming album ‘÷’ (pronounced ‘Divide’): “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You”.

Unsurprisingly, the tracks have been well received by fans. In fact, Sheeran has broken multiple Spotify records since their release, beating out Adele and One Direction – previous record holders.

According to Billboard, both of Sheeran’s new tracks smashed 1D’s previous record for “Drag Me Down,” which received 4.8 million plays in it’s first day; each of Sheeran’s tracks received over 6 million plays. Additionally, Entertainment Weekly reports that Sheeran also beat out fellow British sensation Adele for best first week for a track (her hit “Hello” was the record holder).

What records will Sheeran smash with his new album? We will find out soon! The full album is to be released on March 3, and is available for pre-order now. Additionally, he’s also signed on to do Carpool Karaoke, and we can barely contain ourselves. Welcome back, Ed!
