Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is the latest to open up about her struggle with mental health and depression.
During an interview on the podcast Happy Place, Maisie said,
“I think I just went through a lot of real revelations where I was like I’m not very happy doing this and pretending everything was fine. And so, that wasn’t a public thing but after going through that, now I’ve sort of tried to be a lot more genuine and it just becomes a lot more relaxing after that I think.”
“There’s still a journey, I think. But at least dropping the act and just being who you truly are, I think that’s definitely a first step. Not trying to be who you want me to be right now in this moment.”
“I very much isolated myself for a while and forgot what was fun. Going out with friends, going out to eat, not really having a care.”
With so much pressure on the young actresses, it’s understandable that both would struggle with their mental health. Maisie was only 14 when the show premiered and Sophie was 15. The two have been through an incredible journey together and are lucky to have had each other to learn on.
Sophie previously said,
“We are kind of the only two people who know what it feels like to go through this very scenario from pretty much the same background and ending up where we are and kind of finding ourselves as we go. I think that’s why people respond so well to our friendship, I guess. They see the true, pure love between us.”
