Gina Rodriguez knows a thing or two about confidence. Hailed as one of the top body confidence ladies of 2016, the actress has been more than vocal about self love and letting your confidence shine through.
But despite all of that, Gina says she still struggles with her own confidence. Speaking with Elle, she explains,
“I have a conversation with myself every second of the day. Confidence goes in waves. It fluctuates. But I do understand it’s a choice. It’s a choice of whether you’re gonna take that knife and turn it on yourself or whether you’re going to leave it in the damn kitchen. And I just want to leave it in the damn kitchen.”
Yet even knowing that, Gina still has a moment from time to time where she feels her own confidence wavering.
“We all hear that crazy voice. This situation recently happened: I was getting a fitting for Annihilation, this movie I just shot with these four fierce women—Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson and Tuva Novotny—and Oscar Isaacs, who’s a dream. What a blessing, right? I’m wearing shorts, a T-shirt and there’s a big mirror in front of me and we’re all joking, enjoying the music, just having the best time. And then I hear a voice start to talk to me. ‘Oh, you’re not attractive, dude. You should probably lose weight. You’re gonna do the movie like that?! Ugh, you probably shouldn’t have had that piece of bread this morning.'”
We totally feel you, Gina! And more importantly, we love that Gina Rodriguez is willing to share all of this with her fans. We can’t imagine what kind of pressure she must be under to appear perfect. But it’s her honesty that we love the most and the fact that she’s willing to be real with us. Ugh, Gina, could we love you any more?
becoming a role model
Our favorite Jane the Virgin actress spoke out about what it means to be a representative for her community and why she takes this whole business of being a role model so seriously.
She told Women’s Health
“A strong leader is one who creates other leaders. So if I am encouraging young girls to take control of their lives, to spread kindness, then I am doing the job God put me here to do. With every attempt we make within the industry, with every project I take, it will be to advance women. Not only women of color but all women and men.”
So well said! We would follow Gina Rodriguez to the edge of the desert. Not only is she such a great role model for girl, but for women as well. Everything from her body positivity to her killer self-confidence just screams leader.
