Go, Jen, go!

Jennifer Anniston just made an incredible speech about the narratives that form around women and how we need to fight against the terrible gossip.

The whole thing started when Jen got fed up with the incessant tabloid headlines that claimed she was pregnant or depressed or getting divorced or was jealous of Brangelina. She then went on to write an op-ed for the Huffington Post slamming the tabloids and the horrible body-shaming they were putting her through (they would draw circles around her stomach with giant arrows pointing to an imaginary “baby bump”).

But the actress isn’t done speaking out. On her recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she explained how not only is it the responsibility of the media, but also how it’s the responsibility of readers to control what we “ingest into our brains.”

“Just because we are women, we have a uterus, we have a vagina, we have ovaries, we need to like, ‘Get to work, lady!’”

She added,

“We as women do a lot of incredible things in this world other than just procreate—and not that that is not—but it’s like we just get boxed in.”

So it’s up to us, Jen says, to stop reading into the bullsh–.

“We have to stop listening to them, we have to stop buying them because we have to support each other, especially at this time, to love each other, to support, and to be proud of women, of whatever your choice is in life. It’s up to us what makes us happy and fulfilled.”
