Jessica Alba has certainly come a long way from her days dancing in Honey to building a business empire with The Honest Company. But despite her crazy success, she still had a few more bumps along the way than she would have liked.

Jessica recently opened up to InStyle on how she become the empowered woman she is today. Check out a few of our favorite bits below.

On being a teenage sex icon…

“My sexuality made me very uncomfortable. I remember my first Maxim shoot, they were telling me to pose a certain way, and I was like, ‘Agh! I’m 19. I’m a virgin. I don’t even know how to do that.’ It was so awkward.”

On her quarter-life crises at 25…

“I sort of went through a life crisis. I was like, ‘This isn’t what I set out to be. I’m so much more than this, but I don’t know how not to be a sex symbol.'”

On her unplanned pregnancy with son Cash…

“It was not planned, but I was like, ‘OK, this is where my life is going. I always wanted to be a mom.'”

On starting The Honest Company…

“I made a deal with the universe: If I was able to manifest my dreams, then I would try to do good in some way.”

Lena Finkel is the Editor and Founder of Femestella. Prior to starting Femestella, she worked at People, InStyle, and Tiger Beat. Her favorite Housewife is Bethenny Frankel (by far!), but when she’s not watching RHONY, you can probably find her hanging with her kitty Tom or tweeting at Sen. Chuck Schumer.
