The Academy released its list of Oscar nominees on Tuesday, and to no surprise, Lin-Manuel Miranda made the list. With all the Hamilton hype, it’s easy to forget that Miranda has been involved in many other projects. This includes songwriting for Pixar’s film Moana, for which he received the Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
The nomination is a big deal, not just because it’s an Oscar nom, but because it means that Lin-Manuel is super close to being an EGOT holder. A rare title to hold, it means that he would be the proud owner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony – all of the major awards in the American entertainment world. Current “EGOTers” include Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno, Robert Lopez, and Whoopi Goldberg.
If holding this title wasn’t enough, if Miranda wins he will make history. He will be the youngest to achieve this status, as well as the person to achieve it in the shortest amount of time. He won his first EGOT-qualifying award in 2008, a Tony for In the Heights.
Also, let’s not forget that Miranda is also the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize and a MacArthur Fellowship. All in a day’s work, it seems!
