These are the kinds of things we love to see! Disney’s live-action Mulan reboot has picked female director Niki Caro to head the film.
Caro previously worked on The Zookeeper’s Wife, Whale Rider and McFarland, USA.
Although we would have loved to have seen a female Asian director take the reins, having a female director at all is a big step. This is only Disney’s second time having a female director on a film with a budget greater than $100 million.
Additionally, Disney assures fans that the film will remain “culturally authentic,” and is in the midst of conducting cultural research and casting in mainland China.
