Retweet if you cried.

This past weekend, Saturday Night Live aired its first episode since the official end of Obama’s presidency. The show has recently been in the spotlight for its witty and comical take on the nation’s political climate, but ended this week’s episode with a tribute that was powerful in it’s simplicity.

In the performance, with a powerful black and white image of Barack as the backdrop, Cecily Strong sang the lyrics of the song “To Sir, with Love” from the movie of the same name. Midway through, Sasheer Zamata joins in, and the two sang, “The time has come for closing books and long last looks must end// And as I leave I know that I am leaving my best friend”. (*pass the tissues, please*)

Receiving both praise and criticism for its portrayal of Drumpf’s campaign, it will be interesting to see how SNL portrays the new administration in it’s upcoming episodes and seasons. Regardless, this incredibly touching song was a beautiful tribute to our 44th President.
