If you are “an incredible woman who strives for excellence” then Serena Williams is talking to you!

The tennis pro recently wrote an open letter to women in the latest issue of Porter magazine to show women that they don’t need to take a backseat to men. Not now, not ever. Serena particularly called out how absurd it is that women are named the best female this or the best female that, but never just the best.

“My dream wasn’t like that of an average kid, my dream was to be the best tennis player in the world. Not the best ‘female’ tennis player in the world.”

She adds,

“People call me one of the ‘world’s greatest female athletes.’ Do they say LeBron is one of the world’s best male athletes? Is Tiger? Federer? Why not? They are certainly not female. We should never let this go unchallenged. We should always be judged by our achievements, not by our gender.”

YES!

She also pressed upon the importance of women staying resilient. She explained that what other say as her flaws she used as “fuel for her success.” And this is what she wants for you too: to continue to push the boundaries and follow the path to greatness.

“We must continue to dream big, and in doing so, we empower the next generation of women to be just as bold in their pursuits.”
