Got it? Good.
Let’s get one thing straight: just because Simone Biles was adopted, doesn’t mean her mom and dad aren’t her parents. While that seems like it should be obvious, an NBC commentator caused a controversy after saying the opposite.
On Sunday, gymnastics announcer Al Trautwig labeled Simone’s parents by explaining she “was raised by her grandfather and his wife and she calls them mom and dad.”
Um, not ok.
And social media agreed. After a Twitter storm, Al responded with an even worse comment, tweeting “They may be mom and dad but they are NOT her parents.”
After a lot of social media anger and one forced apology later, Simone is finally responding to Al’s comments:
“My parents are my parents and that’s it.”
Need any more clarification, Al? That’s what we thought.
