Solange continues to amaze us with her sage words of wisdom. Most recently she wrote a letter to her teenage self, published in Teen Vogue, and we’re eating up all her advice.

The fierce singer covers a lot of ground in her letter, including bullying, her future, and conquering pain. But one of the most important things she covers is asking for help, which women are often told makes them look weak. Specifically, she writes,

“When you ask everyone to leave you alone and let you be, what you really want to say is ‘I want you here’ and ‘I need help.’

Sometimes it is ok to say just that. it won’t make you less strong or less powerful. No one you love will criticize you or blame you; in fact, they will lift you up.”

Like we said earlier, Solange covers a lot of very important topics in her letter, but this quote immediately stood out for us. Our modern culture places such a high value on independent women who can get everything done on their own. So to hear this powerful, strong woman say that yes, it’s ok, is refreshing and oh so needed.

Solange also tells her younger self that it’s ok not to know what the future holds and everything will work itself out eventually. Sage words for us all.
