Perhaps one of the best things to come out of Stranger Things is IRL couple Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton.
The couple was rumored to start dating back in September 2016 and seemingly confirmed their relationship one month later. Although the pair has made several public appearances together — particularly at high fashion events — both have stayed relatively mum on their relationship in interviews over the years.
Natalia broke her silence, however, in a 2019 interview with Refinery29 where she opened up about what it’s like to work so closely with your boyfriend (the two also play a couple on Stranger Things). She said,
“It’s an interesting thing to work with somebody who you go home with. It’s always really fun. We’re really comfortable with each other, so we can play and feel more free [sic], and we can talk about it before.”
She added that she tries not to take their time together for granted because you never know when the show could come to an end.
“There’s that sense of who knows if you’ll ever work together with this person ever again? Who knows? This might be your only chance to play like this.”
Charlie echoed similar sentiments later that year in an interview with VMan where he talked about how lucky he felt to have a partner to go through this crazy process with.
“Because we work in the same industry and have had similar trajectories, we’ve gone through it together. Sharing that does bring you closer. They understand something that maybe no one else would. You go into high-pressure situations together but you can share those insecurities or whatever they are. The great, happy times, too… Really fucking sweet!”
Um, adorable!
But despite the fact that they are *literally* the cutest couple IRL, Natalia still doesn’t understand why fans are so obsessed. She told Cosmo UK in a recent 2022 interview,
“I’m always curious as to why it comes up. Why do people want to know about it?”
She continued,
“I think it’s a natural instinct to want to know more about the people who are on your screens for hours, about what they’re like in real life. [But] now that I’ve experienced the other side of it… It sounds so cliché, but I’m just a person, too.”
In fact, the relationship is so “normal” that the only strange thing about the relationship is everyone else’s obsession with it. She explained,
“The weirdest thing about [our relationship] is other people’s perception and reaction to it. Everything else just feels very human.”
