Remember that saying, don’t judge a book by its cover? That’s pretty much how I feel about the new Campbell’s Well Yes! line of soup. And not in a good way.
I recently tried a bunch of new soups from Campbell’s Well Yes! line designed to help you “eat positively.” And well no, they were not good.
I have a full-on addiction to canned soups so I feel pretty confident that I know what I’m talking about in this particular food arena. My go-to brands in this particular category often include Amy’s, Annie’s Homegrown, and even at times Wolfgang Puck’s canned soup line (what, they were on sale!) I’m usually pretty avoidant of Campbell’s because I somewhat care about what I put in my body, but when I saw the new packaging, I was drawn in. What can I say, I’m a sucker for good marketing!
Out of the nine new soups in the line, I tried three: Hearty Lentil with Vegetables, Minestrone with Kale, and Italian Vegetables with Farro. They pretty much all tasted the same — like watered-down tomato soup with a few vegetables thrown in. The fact that they even use the word “hearty” to describe any of these soups is laughable — there are approximately three slices of carrots and maybe five beans per can.
I have to admit that prior to this I had almost been warming up to Campbell’s. They debuted a female-positive ad in which a little girl plays a superhero. But there’s not enough marketing and advertising in the world to save these soups. Heed our warning and stay away.
