Show of hands, how many of you have heard of the MTV show Faking It?

For those of you who only have the slightest idea of what we’re talking about, let us give you the spark notes version:

Two best friends decide to fake a lesbian relationship in order to be popular. It’s all going perfectly dandy until one of them realizes she actually is a lesbian.

Only here’s the thing: Amy (Rita Volk) isn’t 100% sure she’s a lesbian. She isn’t 100% sure of anything actually- just that she has feelings for her BFF Karma (Katie Stevens).

That’s what makes this show so great. Unlike LGBTQ TV characters of the past, Amy is truly one of the only that falls under “Q”- questioning. She’s starting to date girls but she still has confusing crushes on guys once in a while as well.

So many other shows such as Glee, Modern Family and, most recently, Transparent, have done an amazing job of bringing LGBTQ characters to the mainstream and laying the groundwork for so many more such characters.

But what Faking It does so perfectly is capture the confusion and frustration of finding your sexual identity, especially when  everyone else desperately wants to put a label on you.

And if that’s not enough to make you want to watch, the cast also has amazing chemistry, perfect comedic timing and a top notch, if sometimes heartbreaking, script to work off of.

Faking It airs Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30c on MTV. Will you be watching?

Lena Finkel is the Editor and Founder of Femestella. Prior to starting Femestella, she worked at People, InStyle, and Tiger Beat. Her favorite Housewife is Bethenny Frankel (by far!), but when she’s not watching RHONY, you can probably find her hanging with her kitty Tom or tweeting at Sen. Chuck Schumer.
