Riverdale Season 2 is officially happening after the CW’s newest hit drama saw stunning success in its debut season.

Like most shows and movies, a lot is being kept under wraps, but we do know a few deets about the upcoming season. Here’s literally everything we know so far via social media and cast interviews.

Season 2 Premieres on October 11, 2017
That is a pretty quick turnaround considering the show only ended Season 1 a month ago. But we’re not complaining!

The Season Will Be  A Lot Darker
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa explained that Archie’s character will take a dark turn in the second season. Cole Sprouse also indicated that the season overall will be “getting darker and stranger,” Jughead included.

Fred’s Fate Isn’t Looking Good
The official Archie Comics Twitter account tweeted an image of the new season’s table read, but actor Luke Perry (Fred Andrews) is nowhere to be seen in the photo. So I guess we don’t know his fate for sure, but we’re jumping to some conclusions.

New Faces are Joining the Cast
Mark Consuelos (Kelly Ripa‘s husband) will join the cast of season 2 in the role of Hiram Lodge. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says that Hiram and Hermione will be a power couple in the new season.

Filming Has Officially Started!

Archie Comics tweeted out a pic of Cole Sprouse as Jughead eating a hamburger, announcing that filming begins on June 22. Yippee!

Hiram Lodge Is Going to Be a BIG Part of Season 2

Riverdale‘s EP said,

“Hiram is a family man, he loves and treasures his wife and especially his daughter. But there’s no denying that we’ve built up someone who has very dark dealings and who has a criminal past. He’s not like the Serpents, who are a street-level gang. He’s operating at a much higher level and has tentacles everywhere. The questions will be: Is Hiram truly reformed? What does he want? How does Veronica figure into his plans? How will Archie figure into his plans?”

Bughead is Going to Be Put to the Test

Jughead and Betty were able to last until the end of season 1, but will they make it to the end of season 2? With Jughead set to join the Serpents, it’s going to be a rocky road. The EP said,

“The fear Betty has is Jughead is going to be sucked into this world that has nothing to do with Betty — he might be going to a new school, living with a new family in a different part of town, he’s joined this gang. All I’ll tease is Betty is not someone who gives up easily. She’s probably the strongest of the kids. If she’s going to start losing Jughead, which may happen, she’s going to fight for him.”

Things Are Changing Big-Time for Archie Too

KJ Appa, who plays Archie said that his father’s shooting is going to have a huge effect on him.

“I’m really excited to explore a different side of Archie that we haven’t really seen yet, a darker side after Fred gets shot. It kinda shakes things up for him for sure. Things start to get pretty gnarly.”

Archie and Veronica Are Finally Going to Try to Be a Real Couple

“For Veronica and Archie, this is for both of them their first serious, grown up relationship. They’re fun and really into each other. But almost immediately they’re going to be put through the ringer because the first big test of Veronica as a girlfriend will be helping Archie get through what happens to Fred. She’s the happy-go-lucky sophisticate, so for her to sign on for a relationship as fraught as it is, that’s going to be a real challenge.”

Cheryl is Going to Get Way Meaner

If you thought Cheryl was already as cold as she could get, think again Madelaine Petsch said,

“After what happened in Season 1, she’s just done. She’s so shut down and broken. Veronica wants Cheryl to become a part of the gang, and Cheryl wants so badly to become a part of the gang but she’s so egotistical and there’s so much going on in her head that she doesn’t do it.”

Tyler Blackburn *May* Be Joining the Cast

Ok, so this is totally just a rumor at this point, but a rumor we love! Pretty Little Liars star Tyler Blackburn has been rumored to join the cast as possibly Alice Cooper’s long lost son. Please let this be true!
