After Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien had that crazy accident on the set of his film Maze Runner: The Death Cure, he had a long road to recovery ahead of him. He recently recalled how the accident took both a physical and mental toll on him.

O’Brien is currently on the press tour for his latest film American Assassin, but at one point, it wasn’t even clear if he would make it on set. He told ET,

“The state that you’re in after something like that, you just want to run from all that stuff. I didn’t really even want to leave my couch necessarily when I was allowed to, so yeah, it was a big step doing this.”

After a lot of effort, he ultimately decided that he didn’t want to let the opportunity pass him by. Although he was still in recovery, getting back to work ended up being the best thing for him. He said,

“At the time that I came in, and what I was coming off of, I was still at the very end of recovery there when I started, so that was probably the biggest challenge. All the training was very good for my mind and very good for recovery, in a way. It became part of my daily schedule. It really ended up being [therapeutic]. It came at a great time for me.”

Dylan will also appear in the final season of Teen Wolf, although perhaps not as much as we would have liked. Teen wolf returns to MTV on July 30 and American Assassin hits theaters September 15.
