Kristen Stewart just defended her sexuality after years of getting hate online.
The actress, who is openly bisexual and has dated both men and women, spoke with Harper’s Bazaar UK and discussed how the public still doubts her sexuality. She said,
“I’ve been deeply in love with everyone I’ve dated. Did you think I was faking it? I’ve always really embraced a duality. And really, truly, believed in it and never felt confused or struggling. I just didn’t like getting made fun of.”
She added that, of course, she would date men again, saying,
“Some people know that they like grilled cheese and they’ll eat it every day for the rest of their lives. I want to try everything. If I have grilled cheese once I’m like, ‘That was cool, what’s next?'”
What Stewart is addressing is the common myth that being “bisexual” doesn’t really exist and that anyone who claims they are bi is really just gay or lesbian. While folks are finally starting to accept that queer folks are “born this way,” bisexuality just hasn’t gotten nearly as much traction in society.
When Kristen first came into the spotlight, she dated her Twilight costar Robert Pattinson before dating Alicia Cargile and then Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell, who is her current girlfriend.
It sucks that Kristen even needs to defend herself or her sexuality — it’s 2017, after all! Hopefully, Kristen’s openness will help others come to understand just how common and natural bisexuality is.
