Ever seen a bus crash that you just can’t look away from? That was pretty much the SAG Awards red carpet this year.
Celebs wore tacky, ill-fitting, and straight-up fugly dresses (yes, “fugly” is the technical term) that never should have made it out of the limo. Needless to say, the “Best Dressed” list will be a short one.
So, let’s take a look at the good, the bad, and the very, *very* ugly outfits that graced the 2024 SAG Awards red carpet.
The Good
Carey Mulligan

Now *this* is a risk that definitely paid off. On paper, this gold sculptural Armani dress shouldn’t work. And yet, somehow Carey is completely rocking it! As Tyra Banks would say, the dress isn’t wearing her, she’s wearing the dress.
Ariana Greenblatt

If you didn’t know the name Ariana Greenblatt before awards season, you definitely know it by now. The girl has had a series of stunning looks and this custom Vera Wang burgundy strapless velvet gown looks fantastic. It’s hard to pull off such a dark, heavy garment without it looking dowdy but Ariana looks absolutely regal.
Reese Witherspoon

Sometimes simple just *works*. This little red dress by Elie Saab may not be the most exciting or unique but it looks damn good. The color, shape, cut, and length are all perfect for Reese. And her hair and makeup look great as always.
Taraji P. Henson

Wow! Taraji looks drop dead gorgeous in this Giambattista Valli black gown and her hair and makeup are seriously on-point.
The Bad
Selena Gomez

Selena has been on a roll since switching stylists last year but this ain’t it. The gown itself looks like a cheap prom dress but it wouldn’t have been so bad if the tailoring hadn’t been so off. The dress is clearly pulling in multiple places and the padding in the top looks lumpy. Overall, it’s ill-fitting and not her best look.
Brie Larson

Brie’s red carpet look has been pretty polarizing on the internet with some loving it and others cringing. The custom Versace two piece pink gown certainly had potential, but at the end of the day, the skirt just had way too much material. And between the bows, the draping, and the material, the skirt looks more like curtains than clothing. That said, Brie’s abs are low-key incredible.
Margot Robbie

Margot has been killing it with her Barbie red carpet looks but this one is a swing and a miss. While I love an oversized bow, this one looks like it belongs to a completely different dress. Perhaps if they had opted for a midi length rather than an itty bitty mini, they could have made it work. But right now, it just looks unfinished. And would it have killed her stylist to give her a little bling around her neck?
The Ugly
Ali Wong

Oh. My. God. Whoever put Ali in this dress needs to be promptly fired and exiled. There’s taking a risk and then there’s whatever this is. Because let’s just state the obvious: the woman looks like a peacock and *not* in a good way (is there such a thing?!).
Rachel Brosnahan

If Rachel Brosnahan was going for the frumpy Victorian look then she definitely nailed it.
Chris Perfetti

It’s great when men on the red carpet opt for something other than the classic black tux. But Chris’ suit makes him look like a civil war soldier who’s come home to attend prom.
Tan France

For someone whose job is literally to style folks, Tan’s red carpet look is shockingly appallingly. The ultra high waisted pants paired with the cummerbund really throw off the proportions of his body and make his torso look way too short. And the bow tie? There are no words.
Laverne Cox

Someone needs to tell Laverne Cox that “matador” is not in fashion this year (and let’s hope it never is).
