Many of Netflix’s most exciting July additions are blasts from the past! As always, the streaming service is adding dozens of movies and shows next month. But the biggest standouts are giving us major nostalgia. This includes:
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
A true classic, plus who doesn’t love a little Drew Barrymore?
Free Willy
Long before Blackfish, there was Free Willy, one of the first movies in my memory that made me care about the treatment of animals at aquariums and zoos.
Titanic
Now you can watch this classic over and over again to honestly determine if the door would have been big enough for both of them (it was).
The Mighty Ducks
If you’re in the mood for a feel-good family sports movie with a twist of nostalgia, you’ll be excited about this addition.
In terms of more current movies, here are a few buzzed-about projects:
Lion
This Oscar-nommed movie will make you tear up and you are lying if you say it doesn’t.
To the Bone
Lily Collins’ movie will be added to the streaming service mid-month, but it is already stirring up controversy. Some accuse the film of romanticizing eating disorders, while others criticize the project’s choice to portray a middle-class white woman. At the same time, others praise the creators for bringing attention to an ever-pressing issue, and for using a star that has suffered from a disorder herself. We will have to wait and see how it all unfolds.
