GOP, you have messed with the wrong senator! Sen. Susan Collins from Maine (aka one of the only two Republicans to vote “no” on the latest healthcare vote, was caught on mic talking spending, Trump, and more. And it. Was. Awesome.
While chatting with Senator Jack Reed, she spoke about the White House’s terrible budgetary decisions and said,
“I swear, [the Office of Management and Budget] just went through and whenever there was ‘grant,’ they just X it out. With no measurement, no thinking about it, no metrics, no nothing. It’s just incredibly irresponsible.”
Truth! The administration recently cut funding short for programs preventing teen pregnancy for basically no reason at all, so we see where she’s coming from. The White House seems intent on deleting any remnants of Obama, no matter the consequences.
In response, Reed said that Trump was “crazy” and added,
“I mean, I don’t say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.”
Yup. “Crazy” would be an understatement here.
Collins also mocked Trump and said,
“I don’t think he knows there is a [Budget Control Act] or anything.”
It doesn’t seem like Trump knows how anything in government works, as evident by his recent interview with NYT where he claimed that health insurance only costs $12/year. Uh, what country are you living in?
The two also addressed Rep. Blake Fahrenthold who said he would challenge Collins to a duel if she were a man. Reed said that Collins could “beat the s— out of him,” to which Collins replied,
“Well, he’s huge. And he — I don’t mean to be unkind, but he’s so unattractive it’s unbelievable.”
Wow! Tell us how you really feel!
Since this conversation was caught on mic (clearly by accident), Sen. Collins has apologized to Re. Farenthold and apparently he has done the same.
With exception to the “unattractive” comments, we wish Collins would speak like this more often! We need more senators to call out the administration for their clear lack of knowledge and disregard for consequences.
