Alicia Keys’ attitudes about beauty standards have been abundantly clear for some time now. The singer chose to go makeup-free over the past year or so in both her private and public life, much to the praise of fans.
So when fellow Voice judge Adam Levine made a snarky comment, Keys was quick to put him in his place.
In an interview with Howard Stern, Levine revealed what went on behind the scenes. Levine said,
“She was putting on a little bit of makeup and I was like, ‘Oh I thought Alicia doesn’t wear makeup,’ ”
To which Keys responded, “I do what the f*ck I want.”
Alicia’s entire platform for her makeup-free lifestyle was the beauty of a woman’s right to choose. She made it clear in an interview with Allure magazine that she is not anti-makeup. She is pro do-whatever-you-want.
“I am all about a woman’s right to choose. I think a woman should do anything she wants as it relates to her face, her body, her health. Whatever mode of expression that empowers you, that’s what you should do.”
Looks like that’s exactly what she did.
And we completely agree. Do what empowers you and what choice is right for you personally.
