Since Donald Trump has rendered himself totally useless in the face of crises, Beyoncé has decided to step up. The singer recently announced that she is currently formulating a plan with her charity on how best to bring aid to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
In a statement to The Houston Chronicle, she said,
“My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help. I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”
Knowles’ BeyGOOD foundation has already done a lot of work since opening in 2013, including most recently starting the Formation Scholarship, which gave college scholarships to four female undergrads and graduate students.
Other celebs have also started donating to relief efforts. Kevin Hart donated $25K and then challenged Dwayne Johnson, Chris Rock, Justin Timberlake, and more to do the same via Instagram. Drake also took to IG to announce that he is currently working with local relief groups and offering assistance any way he can. Texan defensive end J.J. Watts even started a pledge drive to raise $1 million in aid, donating $100K himself to kick it off.
So proud of everyone for coming together in this time of need. At the risk of sounding totally cheesy, it’s just nice to know right now there are still good people out there willing to do the right thing. In the wake of Charlottesville and everything else that has been going down, that didn’t always seem like a guarantee.
