The Big Bang Theory spinoff is official, and it’s a prequel!
CBS ordered the series, entitled Young Sheldon, for the 2017-18 season
The new series is the brainchild of Chuck Lorre, the creator of The Big Bang Theory, and Steve Molaro, the showrunner.
Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) plays the title character, a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, as he grows up in Texas. The series will be shot as a single-camera show, versus the multicamera setup of The Big Bang Theory.
Additional major plot and casting details are still under wraps. However, given the frequent references to Sheldon’s upbringing in The Big Bang Theory, writers will have a lot to work with.
Spinoffs seem to be the trend of the upcoming comedy season. ABC recently announced orders of spinoffs of both The Goldbergs and Black-ish.
The Big Bang Theory was in the news earlier this month, as its main cast took pay cuts so that all cast members could have equal pay.
