Yeah, you read that right. Broad City character Ilana Wexler (not to be confused with the very real Ilana Glazer) can’t orgasm since the 2016 election.
The revelation apparently comes to Ilana’s character early on in season 4 and she soon decides to seek the help of a sex therapist.
The hilarious response to the election came as a no-brainer to Glazer and Jacobson, who had to do a lot of rewriting of season 4 after Trump unexpectedly won the presidency. Jacobson said Ilana’s orgasm drought “felt like a very organic, emotional way of talking about how we’re all feeling in response to the election.”
Of course, this is just one of the many ways that the duo plan to deal with the fallout from the election. As previously reported, the show plans to bleep out Trump’s name as if it were a curse word.
“The way we were feeling was just so overwhelming that it felt like it had to be infused into the show as an overall undertone.”
But for those worried that the show will focus exclusively on Trump this season, not to worry: Abbi and Ilana still have plenty of other tricks up their sleeves. Other events to expect this year include an appearance by RuPaul, the return of Ilana’s babysitting adventures, a trip to Florida, and a career change for Ilana (she’s been fired from Deals Deals Deals, remember?)
Either way, you better enjoy all the Broad City you can get. This may be one of the last seasons.
Broad City Season 4 debuts on Comedy Central Wednesday, Sept. 13.
