Tara plays the coolest 16-year-old on TV.
OK, we definitely can’t be the only ones obsessed with Hulu’s original series Casual.
The show, which is currently in its second season, focuses on the highly dysfunctional relationships of a mother, daughter, and the mother’s brother as they all attempt to find their own paths while living under the same roof.
The real genius of the show comes from the truly raw emotions of the characters, which can in part be credited to the talented Tara Lynne Barr, who plays 16-year-old Laura. Tara’s performance while [SPOILER] confronting her mother for sleeping with her high school photo teacher (who Laura also happens to be in love with) was one of the highlights of the first season.
But Tara is definitely no one-trick pony. She’s also starred on the new hit Aquarius alongside David Duchovny, as well as made the rounds on a few of Nickelodeon’s ’00s TV shows.

While 22 years old, Tara can totally relate to her teenage character.
She told InStyle, “Laura is similar to me in that we both feel things really deeply but maybe we don’t necessarily display those feelings. Sometimes we hold our tongue a little too much and then we end up repressing our feelings. I feel like Laura and I both have a really similar sense of humor.”
She was completely shocked when Casual was nominated for a Golden Globe this year.
Speaking to EW, she said, “I woke up to a bunch of pings and dings and texts and calls, so I just assumed someone had died. That’s immediately where my brain went to. But I was very, very pleasantly surprised when I found out the news. Surprised and excited and grateful and giddy.”
She has killer red carpet style.
Earlier this year she hit the Golden Globes rocking a seriously gorgeous red dress and totally knocked it out of the park! Uh, can we barrow her stylist some time?
She’s grateful that her character Laura presents a more realistic version of teenage sex.
“Teenage girls masturbate and have sex and as long as you’re safe about it, there’s nothing wrong or dirty or shameful about it. And that’s the point of view that our writers took and I think it really made the show and Laura’s character a lot more grounded and believable.”
She’s a total cat lady.
We obviously creeped on her Instagram and immediately spotted her adorable kitty Louie, who she took home about two and half months ago. So cute!
She thinks season 2 is going to be even better than season 1.
“One of the most notable differences is that in this season we are going out into the world and actively trying to make friends and widen the scope of our lives beyond this little threesome of Valerie, Alex and Laura,” she told the IB Times.
Casual season 2 is only three episodes in but it is already so good! We can’t wait to see what Tara and the rest of the gang has in store for us.
