First came the scrunchies. Then the headbands. And now, the Doc Martens.

That’s right: the combat boots that went mainstream in the 90s are officially back.

And should any of us be surprised? 90s fashion has been back with a vengeance as evident by Gen Z’s obsession with the middle part, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal” music video, and just about every influencers’ IG feed.

What was once considered “grunge” is now a fashion staple and everyone from model Irina Shayk to The Bachelorette lead Michelle Young is rocking the combat boot.

While some are sticking with the classic ankle boot style, others are making a bold statement with knee-high lace-ups. Black is the color of choice for most celebs while a few mix it up with a baby pink version.

But celebs aren’t just wearing Dr. Martens, they’re also sporting designer versions by brands like Prada and Bottega Veneta, which are creating their own version of the iconic combat boot. If the originals are too androgynous for you, you can embrace a more feminine style with high-heeled versions

Combat boots are also making their way onscreen. Selena Gomez has been rocking a high-heeled black bootie as Mabel Mora in Only Murders in the Building nearly every week (we found the exact ones she wears here).

Perhaps the reason that combat boots like Dr. Martens have made such a huge comeback is that they’re so effortlessly cool. They convey a sense of confidence, edge, and style. Plus, they go with everything — jeans, mini dresses, and more. They’re the perfect way to take an outfit to the next level.
