Yesterday was a hard day for a lot of us. Our role model Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital after a drug overdose.
Although her reps say that she is officially awake, we still don’t know the extent of the situation. While many are claiming the overdose was from heroin, TMZ is now reporting that’s not the case. Her reps asked for “privacy” at this time, which I completely understand. But it’s leaving many of her fans (including me) feeling anxious about her health status.
In the meantime, Lovatics have been using the hashtag #HowDemiHasHelpedMe to share intimate stories about how their hero has inspired their lives.
Below are a few of the tweets that really tugged at my heartstrings.
#HowDemiHasHelpedMe when I was at the worst part of my life and I just wanted to give up completely, Demi’s speeches and music and book just kept me going and helped me be able to finally ask for help. I just recently passed 5 years clean and I credit that partially to her. ❤️

She helped me ask for help. Her music has been there with me in waiting rooms before counselling, her music has been there for me in all my hospital stays. She has been there for me in my dark times and I am so grateful for her #HowDemiHasHelpedMe

in 6th grade i struggled with anorexia & ‘believe in me’ saved me. in 7th grade i had my suicide note written & struggled with self harm & ‘skyscraper’ saved me. in 9th grade i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder & ‘warrior’ saved me. i will forever love her? #HowDemiHasHelpedMe

My mom killed herself when I was 9, we were home alone. I have depression and anxiety disorder. Been through bulimia, cutting & even amphetamines (still w/ this last). Demi was the only person that I could relate, that made me believe I could handle it. Love. #HowDemiHasHelpedMe

she’s my role model. diagnosed with mental illness is not easy, but she’s the one whom helped me with her story, her songs, and honest words. without her i’d be gone long time ago. she helped me how to survive and fight the monster inside me. @ddlovato #HowDemiHasHelpedMe

dear @ddlovato, i was a broken girl from a broken home. i would spend hours upon hours crying in my room, wishing that i was dead. i felt small and never spoke unless i was spoken to. your music gave me a reason to be as loud as i wanted, you gave me a voice. #HowDemiHasHelpedMe
