In one small tweet, Andy Cohen has hinted that the OG Real Housewives series, The Real Housewives of Orange County, might be getting a complete overhaul.
It all started with a tweet from journalist Evan Ross Katz, who wrote,
“It’s time to cancel RHOC.”
Meghan McCain then chimed in with, “yes.”
But it sounds like Andy is not quite ready to give up on the show so quickly. He replied to them both,
“I think you mean a reBOOT.”
Does that mean cast members are getting “the boot”? Are they going to “reboot” the show with an all-new cast? One can only hope.
RHOC took a nosedive this season after firing Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Judge, both of whom had become synonymous with the show.
Although Vicki and Tamra‘s schtick had certainly gotten stale, their departure left the show with an extremely mediocre cast.
There’s Kelly Dodd, a malicious, anti-COVID racist who has said numerous offensive and horrifying things over the years and most recently accused fellow cast member Braunwyn Windham-Burke of lying about her alcoholism.
Then there’s Shannon Beador, who can best be described as a Debbie Downer.
We have Emily Simpson and Gina Kirschenheiter, who both seem like perfectly fine human beings but don’t make for great TV.
There’s newbie Elizabeth Lyn Vargas, who, despite her fascinating childhood of growing up in a cult, has contributed little to the show other than that.
And finally, there’s Braunwyn Windham-Burke, who still has potential, if only she had better co-stars. Plus, the Housewives franchise has a history of homophobia so it would be great to get to see an LGBTQ cast member included next season.
If Andy wants to give them all the boot and give the show a fresh start, it could be RHOC‘s saving grace. Otherwise, the original Housewives series might just die after 15 years.
But with so many other great new cities in the franchise, would anyone really miss watching a bunch of boring white people argue over nothing?
Real Housewives of Potomac *really* brought it this season, perhaps making it top shows in the franchise. Fans even called the RHOP season 5 reunion one of the best Housewife reunions in years.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, though not my personal cup of tea, has become an instant hit and will undoubtedly be renewed for season 2.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has seemingly found its footing once again after the departure of Lisa Vanderpump. And as long as Lisa Rinna stays on the show, they really can’t go wrong.
Real Housewives of New York will always be one of the best cities of all time. It’s hard to beat Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, and Countess Luann de Lesseps.
The Real Housewives franchise is so much bigger than RHOC at this point. Orange County is but a carat in what has become a 14-carat diamond of a franchise.
Perhaps Andy can revamp the show and breathe some life into it. But if he can’t? I have a feeling we’ll all move on just fine.
