Major spoilers ahead!

Euphoria season 2 was definitely controversial to say the least.

While many fans praised the acting of the cast, most found the script to be lackluster and the many loose ends to be frustrating

But one thing that everyone can agree on: the season finale was absolutely insane!

After Custer’s failed attempt to work as a CI for the police in order to catch Fezco on a wire, Ashtray decides to take things into his own hands. He kills Custer and ends up in a massive shootout with the cops.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, actor Javon Walton said,

“He really snapped in the last episode. That was his breaking point.”

He added that Javon really just wants to protect his big brother Fezco, just like Fez wants to do for him.

“He’s definitely ride or die for [Fez]. That’s his main thing.”

In an interview with Variety, he echoed the sentiments and said,

“It’s either you go to jail or you die at that point, when SWAT teams are blazing bullets through the whole place; there’s not much you can do. And [Fez] really just wanted to protect me, like how I wanted to protect him.”

As you probably heard by now, Ash was not the one who was originally going to get shot, it was actually Fez. But creator Sam Levinson made last-minute changes the day before shooting (probably after seeing Fez’s rise as a fan favorite) and the rest is history.

But that wasn’t the only script change throughout the season. According to Javon, Ashtray got a lot less dialogue and a lot more violent in the rewrites.

“He got a lot more violent this season, because last season, he was younger. But as he’s matured, he’s really changed almost for the worst.”

Obviously, Javon wasn’t thrilled with all of the changes (especially the ones that took out many of his lines), but he said he was committed to Sam’s vision.

It’s pretty clear that Javon’s time on the show has come to an end, but he still has hope that somehow Ash survives.

“If there’s somebody who could take a bullet in the show, it’s Ashtray. Ashtray is one badass kid. He’s not playing around.”

In the meantime, you can catch Javon on the upcoming season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, which is set to drop on Netflix later this year.
