When it comes to the Euphoria crew, Rue Bennett definitely has a style all her own.

Unlike bestie Lexi Howard, who loves to look proper and prim in Miu Miu, and friend Maddy Perez, who prefers street style designers Akna and I.AM.GIA, Rue has much more of a stoner/gender-neutral/tomboy/vintage vibe going on.

In season 1, Rue (played by Zendaya) wears a ton of oversized tees and hoodies and a ton of “menswear” looks.

In season 2, Rue’s look starts to evolve a bit. While she’s still rocking her iconic burgundy hoodie and tons of oversized tees, she’s also started embracing androgynous vintage pieces. In the season premiere, Rue wore a thrifted John Paul Gaultier Jacquard Vest and vintage Roberto Cavalli pants on New Year’s Eve, setting the stage for the rest of the season.

Euphoria‘s costume designer Heidi Bivens has said that Zendaya has actually been a huge source of inspiration for Rue’s wardrobe. She told SSENSE,

“The first meeting I had with her she came in wearing a white tank top and some Re/Done jeans. And I remember thinking, ‘You look good just as you are,’ and feeling so inspired for her character Rue. She feels non-binary to me too, in a lot of ways, which is something that’s being explored on the show.”

On top of that, Heidi says that Rue is one of her favorite characters to dress on the show saying that there are “no rules”.

“When your creativity is boundless in terms of where you can go to in your mind to glean ideas, that’s the most exciting.”
