Gina Rodriguez is a beacon. And now the star is opening up about her struggles with anxiety.
Rodriguez recently took to Instagram this weekend to post a short “ten-second portrait”, filmed by her friend Anton Soggiu.
The video caption read,
“It’s always great to be in front of his lens but this time it was just me. Bare and exposed in the streets of La. No makeup. No styling. Just me. I suffer from anxiety. And watching this clip I could see how anxious I was but I empathize with myself. I wanted to protect her and tell her it’s ok to be anxious, there is nothing different or strange about having anxiety and I will prevail. I like watching this video. It makes me uncomfortable but there is a freedom I feel maybe even an acceptance. This is me. Puro Gina.”
We absolutely adore this post from Gina. Her bravery in opening up about her anxiety is raw, real, and refreshing. It’s relatable for anyone who’s dealt with any kind of anxious tendencies and is a reminder that it’s okay to feel this way.
We love that Gina lives her truth, and invites others to do the same. She continues to spread her message of empowerment, even when things don’t always seem positive on the surface.
Gina isn’t the only celebrity who has recently opened up about mental health issues. Prince William and Harry have come forward with their own words about mental health, and Lady Gaga has long been an advocate on the subject. Even Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has opened up about attending therapy.
It’s continually amazing to see people in power use their platform to educate and empower others. It gives us hope that the stigma of mental illness will soon be erased.
