Harry Styles is inching his way back into the spotlight (although, did he ever really leave?).
With the debut of his first single as a solo artist, his performance on SNL, and the tracklist release for his self-titled album, to say he’s been busy is an understatement
To fans’ delight, Rolling Stone just released an extended personal interview with Styles, a rare glimpse into the layers of the British singer.
Here are some of the best tidbits fans got from Harry in the interview.
1. Styles suggested One Direction take a break back in 2014.
He explained, “I didn’t want to exhaust our fan base. If you’re shortsighted, you can think, ‘Let’s just keep touring,’ but we all thought too much of the group than to let that happen. You realize you’re exhausted and you don’t want to drain people’s belief in you.”
But fear not, the eventual hiatus was an agreed-upon decision across the band.
2. He’ll always have love in his heart for 1D.
“I love the band, and would never rule out anything in the future. The band changed my life, gave me everything.”
Reunion, please??? Although we are pretty excited to see more out of the band members’ solo careers.
3. Being “honest” was the most important quality in writing his new album.
Styles said, “I didn’t want to write ‘stories. I wanted to write my stories, things that happened to me. The number-one thing was I wanted to be honest. I hadn’t done that before.”
4. He’s nervous about his solo career.
Styles is both excited and anxious about releasing his solo music and explains: “I mean, I’ve never done this before. I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. I’m happy I found this band and these musicians, where you can be vulnerable enough to put yourself out there. I’m still learning … but it’s my favorite lesson.”
5. He has nothing but well wishes for Zayn.
In response to questions about former fellow bandmate Zayn Malik, Harry expressed,
“I never wish anything but luck to anyone doing what they love. If you’re not enjoying something and need to do something else, you absolutely should do that. I’m glad he’s doing what he likes, and good luck to him.”
6. He doesn’t have too much to say to Taylor Swift but does thank her.
When asked about if he had anything he’d want to say to Taylor Swift (a frequently avoided subject in interviews with Styles), he replied,
“I don’t know. Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the time together. You’re celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than ‘this didn’t work out, and that’s bad.’ And if you run into that person, maybe it’s awkward, maybe you have to get drunk … but you shared something. Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it’s the best shit ever. So thank you.”
It’ll be exciting to see Styles take this new direction. For an even deeper and closer look at Harry, be sure to read the complete Rolling Stone interview.
