Tuesday’s Planned Parenthood 100 anniversary gala in NYC was a star-studded and empowering event.
The event saw the likes of Meryl Streep, Chelsea Handler, Shonda Rhimes, and Hillary Clinton, and more. Rhimes and Clinton were both honored with achievement awards.
Hillary spoke at the event and didn’t forget to address the scum in D.C. who are threatening to take away funding from the organization.
Clinton said,
“As we speak, politicians in Washington are still doing everything they can to roll back the rights and progress we’ve fought so hard for over the last century. I mean, could you believe those the photos of groups of men around that conference table deciding to strip away coverage for pregnancy and maternity care?”
Preach, sista.
She even added,
“I gotta say, my favorite internet meme about this were the dogs sitting around the table discussing feline care — I found that so on point!”
Lol @ Hillary trying to connect with young people. But still, true.
Planned Parenthood offers vital medical care for women, even beyond abortions. For more information about what it means to defund the organization, check out our rundown.
In her speech, Clinton also addressed the terrifying relevance of Hulu’s new hit, The Handmaid’s Tale. Clinton explained,
“The show has prompted an important conversation about women’s rights and autonomy. In ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ women’s rights are gradual, slowly stripped away. As one character says, ‘We didn’t look up from our phones until it was too late. It’s not too late for us, but we have to encourage the millions of women and men who support Planned Parenthood’s mission to keep fighting.”
