The White House Doesn't Consider Women's Rights to be Human Rights

What. The. Fuck.

According to recent reports from Politico, the State Department is currently preparing their human rights report, and it will deliberately ignore women’s and LGBTQ rights. Naturally, the decision came straight from the White House.

To give you some context, the report is created annually and gives an update on the state of human rights in countries that receive financial aid from the U.S. It typically includes everything from individual to civil to political rights, which includes abortion rights for women around the world. A previous report included how India had “unmet needs for contraception and deaths related to unsafe abortion.” Another described how China was forcing abortions and sterilizations on unwilling women.

All of these injustices will likely be ignored in the 2018 report, however, because it will downplay any discrimination or hardships that women and LGBTQ individuals are facing. An unnamed State Department member told Politico,

“This sends a clear signal that women’s reproductive rights are not a priority for this administration and that it’s not even a rights violation we must or should report on.”

This is beyond disgusting. To deny women their rights is terrible enough, but to pretend like it isn’t even happening? That’s on a whole other level of horrible.

The official spokesperson for the State Department, Heather Nauert outright denied “downgrading coverage of LGBT or women’s issues.”

Will this administration ever stop lying?
