John Legend and Chrissy Teigen pretty much give us #lifegoals every day, all day. They appear to have the ideal relationship, booming careers, and a lovely child. But Legend wants you to stop thinking that their lives are perfection.
Legend, who was recently named one of Time’s most influential people of 2017, pointed to the moment his wife Chrissy opened up about her postpartum depression.
“My wife just wrote very candidly about what she went through with postpartum depression and dealing with the aftermath of having a child. We’re very happy in our relationship and very happy to be parents, but, like everybody, we’re human and we have challenges. No one should think that our lives are perfect.”
As you’ll recall, Teigen previously wrote an essay for Glamour in which she detailed her struggles with depression after giving birth to Luna, and how she found her way to antidepressants.
More recently, she said that she’s “feeling like herself” again, but is still recovering.
To Legend’s point, we can see how it’s easy to view their lives as “perfect,” and their family pics on Instagram certainly don’t help! But Legend insists that he and Chrissy are just like any other new parents, and are just trying to make sense of their new family.
“We’re like other parents. We’re excited to post pictures of our babies. We’re just being as natural as we can be in a kind of surreal world.”
John and Chrissy just celebrated Luna’s 1st birthday.
