After what feels like forever, Lorde is finally ready to release her second album Melodrama. It comes at a pivotal time in her life — the 20-year-old artist is a lot more mature than when Pure Heroine came out and a lot more experienced.
Not to mention that she wrote it in the wake of a break-up with her longtime boyfriend James Lowe. But despite this, Lorde insists that Melodrama is not, in fact, a break-up album.
Speaking with The New York Times, she said,
“It’s a record about being alone. The good parts and the bad parts.”
The break-up has changed her music style, for better or for worse.
“After your heart is broken, music enters you on a new level. You suddenly find yourself crying when ‘Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart’ comes on.”
The singer has not specified the reason for her and Lowe’s break-up but we can imagine that her sudden rise to fame, not to mention her crazy schedule had something to do with it. The couple was together for about three years but it became clear that they had split after they each abruptly stopped posting photos together on Instagram.
Lorde has already released two singles from the Melodrama, “Greenlight” and “Liability,” although the full album doesn’t drop until June 16.
We’ll be waiting on the edge of our seats, Lorde!
