Katherine Langford is on a roll.
Katherine got her big break last year as Hannah Baker in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, but she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
She’s already made the leap to the big screen, which can often take other actors years to achieve.
In one of the year’s most anticipated films Love, Simon, Katherine plays Simon’s best friend Leah. Like 13RW, the film covers some heavy topics as Simon tries to come to terms with his sexuality as a gay man, while hiding it from his friends and family.
It’s no coincidence that Katherine had taken on projects with serious, thought-provoking topics. She said she’s “very conscious” of the roles she chooses.
“I think there are some very obvious differences between the show and the film. But the one thing I feel does kind of connect them is that authentic approach, and that want to respect the intellect of the audience and to tell a story truthfully.”

In addition to acing, Katherine has already expressed interest in going behind the camera as well. She said,
“I’d like to direct but if I did it I’d want to be ready to do it. I really like the idea of capturing parts of yourself that you keep to yourself and you don’t show to people. I think that’s really cool. I had this idea to tell when you fall in love with someone, but from a girl’s perspective for another girl. I had a friend who told me about that. She just had a really beautiful story.”
And then there’s her upcoming music career. Katherine comes from a musical background and intends to take the next year or so honing her sound.
“I want to take risks and challenges, and wait for a piece that inspires me like these two have.”
Of course, Katherine has no intention of abandoning the show that launched her career and landed her a Golden Globe nomination. She’ll return to 13RW, but she promises you’ll see a “very different” side of Hannah.
Season two will tackle the perspectives of the other 12 students from the tapes and how they remembered the events going down. Katherine explained,
“This season we get to explore a lot more of the other characters and their journeys, which I’m excited about. As sad as it is, there is life after Hannah, and this season we get to see the effects it had on the people around her a lot more.”

With all these projects, it’s fair to say that Katherine Langford is well on her way to becoming the next big thing, possibly even the next Jennifer Lawrence.
Just like J. Law, Katherine started her career in the teen genre but is quickly taking on more and more serious roles (as if 13RW wasn’t serious enough).
Katherine has so much potential and I, for one, am glad to see her using it.
Transitioning from a young adult to grown woman in Hollywood may be one of the toughest challenges an actress can face. We’ve seen too many talented actors throw it all away for drugs and partying.
But Katherine is focused and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t succeed in everything she tackles.
So pay attention now because I have a feeling this is just the start of a long career for Katherine.
