Meet the Brand That's Making Period Panties Sexy

In the last few years, sustainable period products have exploded in popularity.

What used to be a niche market has become mainstream with many retailers offering things like reusable pads, applicator-free tampons, and more.

But the product that’s really caught fire? Period underwear.

And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like: underwear you wear on your period that will absorb your flow (much like a pad but without all the bulkiness).

While you’re probably familiar with popular brands like Thinx, Knix, and TomboyX, there’s now a new kid on the block here to challenge the very notion of what period panties could be: Pure Rosy.

Pure Rosy is here to make your period panties cute as hell. Because who says period underwear has to be boring?

Pure Rosy’s underwear incorporates elements like lace, striped waistbands, and more so your period panties look just like any other pair in your drawer.

According to founder Linda Miller, she was motivated to create Pure Rosy when she realized there was a major hole in the market. She said,

“Though I’d been encouraged by the entrepreneurial women ushering in a new wave of innovation, I still felt they hadn’t yet mastered the winning formula as there wasn’t an option that combined period protection with style and sustainability.”

Each pair of undies holds about two light tampons worth of blood, so they’re perfect for the last few days of your period.

On top of that, the undies are also pretty comfy. They essentially feel like there’s nothing more than a panty liner sewn into the underwear, so you’re free to wear them on your off days as well.

Opting for period underwear is a great way to reduce your personal waste, especially when it comes to your period. According to National Geographic, a person who menstruates will end up using 5,000-15,000 pads and tampons in their lifetime, most of which ends up in a landfill. So if you don’t think all those tampon applicators and pad packaging adds up, think again.

And since periods are pretty much an unavoidable part of life (unless you use the pill to skip yours, of course), we have to figure out a way to menstruate without creating billions of pounds of waste every year. Choosing reusable products like period underwear can be a great small step in tackling an enormous problem.
