Meet our new role model.
After a devastating election, this country’s women need a little hope. And actress Meghan Markle is going to be the one to give it to us.
You may recognize her name as one of the stars of the hit-series Suits, or from the headlines as Prince Harry’s rumored new leading lady. But what you probably don’t know is that Meghan is a true activist at heart, and the role model we never knew we needed. She’s been the Global Ambassador for World Vision and has given speeches at the UN for International Women’s Day. And while she’s always been a passionate advocate for women since the time she was little, fame is what gave her the extra push to speak her voice.
In a recent essay for Elle U.K., she wrote,
“The moment Suits became successful and I realized people (especially young girls) were listening to what I had to say, I knew I needed to be saying something of value.”
She’s since started her own website, thetig.com, in which she gives out both fashion and tips and heartfelt words of wisdom about empowerment.
“With fame comes opportunity, but it also includes responsibility – to advocate and share, to focus less on glass slippers and more on pushing through glass ceilings. And, if I’m lucky enough, to inspire.”
Ugh, she is so wonderful. Are we gushing? We can’t help it because it is so refreshing to see an actress who takes her job as a role model so seriously. If Paris Hilton is our past, we want Meghan Markle to be out future. Someone who chooses helping children in Rwanda over attending the BAFTA tea is someone who truly deserves the spotlight.
