Netflix’s new series Beef dropped and it’s even more dramatic than we ever could have anticipated!
The series stars Ali Wong as Amy Lau, a small business owner trying to have it all while very quickly losing her mind. Turns out her Instagram-worthy life isn’t as picture-perfect as everyone thinks (shocker!).
The enormous pressure she feels to be the perfect mother and wife and to bring home the bacon for the *very* expensive lifestyle her husband is used to is at a boiling point. And one chance encounter with struggling contractor Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) sets her over the edge.
But despite her deteriorating mental health, Amy still manages to look perfect. In an interview with Netflix’s blog, costume designer Helen Huang explained,
“With Amy, she has a very curated facade. So we wanted it to feel curated, we wanted to have good taste, we wanted to be very Instagram-worthy.”
Throughout the series, Helen collaborated with Ali — whom she called “a dream” to work with — to create conceptual, artsy outfits with interesting silhouettes. And wow, did they succeed!
The result is a beautiful wardrobe full of both immaculate minimalist pieces and statement-making looks.
