Netflix’s latest truest crime drama Woman of the Hour follows the “Dating Game Killer” Rodney Alcala around the time of his appearance on, you guessed it, The Dating Game.
The original episode he appeared on aired in 1978 (you can watch a clip here) in the midst of his killing spree. The bachelorette on the episode was drama teacher Cheryl Bradshaw (played by Anna Kendrick), who actually ended up picking Alcala as the winner (!). Fortunately, on their date, she was smart enough to realize what a creep he was and stayed *far* away from him.
As for how accurate the film is, this Vulture article lays out what’s reality vs. what’s fiction.
But one thing’s for sure: the hair and costume department took some *major* liberties. IRL, Cheryl rocked a very 70s blowout, with her hair swooped to the side (Kendrick’s hair was straightened). As for her dress? Cheryl wore what appeared to be a grey short sleeve midi dress while Anna was dressed in bright pink paisley.
The actress most likely wore authentic vintage outfits from the 70s, but we found several pieces that will give you the same aesthetic.
