After what has felt like a never-ending heat wave, pretty much everyone is looking forward to sweater weather.

With fall finally on the horizon, folks are starting to look toward the biggest fall trends so they can prepare for one of the trendiest seasons of the year.

Here to help is New York Fashion Week, which doesn’t officially start until Friday, September 9, 2022. Luckily, we’ve gotten a bit of a preview of what shoe trends will be big this fall and we think you’ll like what you see.

Of course, boots are always in. This year, designers are ditching the ankle boot in favor of tall, over-the-knee, and even pantaboots (aka boots that turn into pants). But make sure you keep some band-aids on hand because flat boots won’t be a big hit this season. At best, you might be able to find boots with a kitten heel, but don’t hedge your bets.

On top of that, prep is back in a big way. Preppy classics like oxfords, loafers, mary janes, and ballet flats are making a return. But just because brands are going-old school doesn’t mean the shoes are predictable. Designer brands like Miu Miu are putting a twist on the classic ballet flat, bringing us to the pinnacle of the balletcore trend. And Gucci is always there with the perfect loafer, regardless of gender identity.

A hold-over from summer trends includes platforms. Platform pumps are certainly the most popular but don’t count out platform oxfords because you’ll see quite a few of those as well. The Senior Marketing Editor at Net-a-Porter told Harper’s Bazaar,

“Sky-high platforms continued their ascent as a key trend for fall/winter 2022 across pumps, boots, and sandals — we anticipate these will be a mainstay for seasons to come.”

Another hold-over is fashion sneakers, which have become increasingly popular over the past year. Think the Gucci X Adidas collaboration, which dropped in June this year.

Lastly, don’t forget the artsy, fashion-forward shoes that can’t be categorized. Brands are feeling creative this season with slanted heels, new shapes and silhouettes, and more.

Check out what shoe trends all your favorite brands will be showing this season at NYFW Fall 2022.

The brand will also continue on with their fashion sneakers, even after they leave their collaboration with Adidas behind. The brand has put together a collection of what they’ve dubbed Gucci Run sneakers that are as practical as they are stylish — a rarity in the fashion world.

Lastly, Loewe is determined to “reinvent workwear” with a pair of bright red wellies (Mabel Mora would definitely approve), gold-heeled boots, and fluffy flats.

Versace gave us all the drama we wanted — and more! The brand’s Fall 22 collection features a mix of trends — think platform sky-high boots. Of course, Versace has to put a twist on it. They added a few sexy buckles to give the boots a mary jane-meets-dominatrix kind of vibe.

You can always count on Simone Rocha to embrace their own trends — this time the western boot.

The designer brand has also embraced balletcore with a pair of shiny pink mary jane-style platform pumps that offer the perfect feminine touch.

That wasn’t the only balletcore to grace the AW22 collection, however. They also embraced the trend in a pair of flats they’ve dubbed the Criss-Cross trek Ballerinas — and aptly so. The pair definitely were made more for walking than for dancing.

If anyone has been a trendsetter this year, it’s definitely been Miu Miu. The brand ushered in the era of the micro mini skirt earlier this year and now it’s taking balletcore to new heights — literally!

For the FW 22 collection, Miu Miu is combining mary janes pumps with ballet flats to bring us a romantic, feminine shoe collection. They also include a pair of ballet flats that would easily fit into any ballerina’s bag.

In their FW 22 campaign, they paired the flats with a pair of schoolgirl socks to make the look cozier than ever.
